The Ministry of Domestic Affairs, led by Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, has not yet received a formal announcement about Najib Razak's conditional house arrest, according to the source. The minister stated that his department and the Prison Department need to see whether a special dwelling for Najib's house arrest is set up by the Central Federal Council's Rehabilitation Board, or handed over to the Prison Department's spokesman.

In a media briefing in Kedah, Saifuddin expressed his eagerness to receive the official information, typically provided by the Prime Minister's Department's Legal Advisory Unit, which serves as the Secretariat for the Rehabilitation Board. He emphasized that until he gets the clarification, the ministry and the Prison Department cannot prepare adequately for any necessary arrangements.

Saifuddin further commented on the possibility of Najib's residence in Taman Duta being used as the house arrest location, but mentioned that his ministry needs to first consider if the Rehabilitation Board has designated a specific site or if it is being transferred to the Prison Department's spokesman. He also noted that Malaysia does not currently have a specific law governing house arrest, but assured that his team is drafting the relevant legislation to enable its implementation, particularly for remand prisoners.

If the bill is passed, the ministry said it can release remand detainees to their homes and equip them with modern surveillance equipment until their court hearing, marking the primary objective of the proposed legislation, according to Saifuddin.
