Institute of Science Tokyo, MIT Sign Deal on Education, Research Tie-up

Institute of Science Tokyo, a newly formed academic entity in 2024, has entered into a strategic agreement with prestigious institution Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States. The collaboration aims to nurture globally competitive talents and foster research that can lead to technological advancements, as stated by Institute of Science Tokyo.

The primary objective of the deal is to establish a foundation for educational and research exchanges, which will ultimately result in innovations and solutions to societal challenges. The partnership will span over the next three years, focusing on MIT's renowned expertise in entrepreneurship education. This will include special lectures by MIT instructors and the creation of instructional materials based on its programs.

Furthermore, the agreement encompasses workshops in various fields such as medicine-engineering collaboration, nuclear energy, and semiconductors - areas marked by intense development competition. These workshops aim to facilitate two-way exchanges of students and researchers, thereby promoting joint research activities and the establishment of university-backed startups.

To support these joint research endeavors, the institutes will establish a fund to cover travel expenses for participants before the commencement of collaborative projects. Naoto Ohtake, the president and chief executive officer of Institute of Science Tokyo, emphasized that this collaboration will not only bolster science in the future but also align with the institute's mission to promote science globally.

In January this year, Institute of Science Tokyo was recognized by the Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Ministry as a University for International Research Excellence, a designation that aims to elevate universities to top-tier global research capabilities.
