Gunmen kill three, injure many in Plateau market attack

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday, gunmen stormed the popular Mangu market in Plateau State's Mangu Local Government Area, resulting in at least five deaths and numerous injuries. Bulus Dabit, President of the Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA), confirmed the attack, stating that the gunmen fired sporadically at traders and customers before killing two women and a young man on the spot, while two others died later in a nearby hospital.

Eyewitnesses described the assailants as armed with sophisticated weapons and shooting for over 10 minutes, causing widespread panic and chaos among the market's patrons. Several people were seriously injured and are being treated at the Jos University Teaching Hospital. The MDA's Director of Public Affairs, Friday Derwam, called for the use of intelligence and technology to apprehend the perpetrators, emphasizing that the attack came only hours after the MDA raised concerns over threats to the Mangu community, with over 750 Mwaghavul people killed in attacks since 2023.
