Sybiha: ICAO conveys Ukraine's position on risks of flights to Russia to all member states

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has informed all member states about Ukraine's concerns over the dangers of flying in Russian airspace, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha. Sybiha expressed gratitude for ICAO's communication of Ukraine's position on the risks of operating in Russian skies. He noted that Ukraine, as a member state, is committed to safeguarding civil aviation, having intercepted Russian drones and missiles since the invasion began.

Sybiha stressed that Russia's actions, including missile barrages and drone incidents, are deliberately terrorizing Ukrainian and other countries' airspaces, causing significant disruptions to NATO air traffic. Ukraine has officially notified ICAO about the dangers posed by Russian airspace due to increased military activity, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned airlines and those utilizing Russian airports about the escalating danger.

ICAO has urged its member states to enhance protections for civil aircraft against threats arising from conflict zones, as modern military technologies continue to pose growing risks to civil aviation.
