Indian-origin US lawmaker 'horrified' after Sikh driver stabbed 17 times in Wyoming

Indian-origin US Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi expressed his horror following the brutal stabbing of a Sikh truck driver, Gurvinder Singh, who endured 17 stab wounds in Wyoming. Krishnamoorthi accused the attack of being part of a broader surge in hatred towards Sikh and South Asian Americans in the United States. He highlighted a recent post by the Trump administration featuring a Sikh man named "Mr. Singh" urging him to "get off our roads" and "self-deport."

Krishnamoorthi condemned those spreading hate, including officials in the federal government, and called for accountability for those who turn such hate into violence. The 28-year-old victim, Gurvinder Singh, was attacked at a rest stop along Interstate 80 in Wyoming on September 13 while traveling towards Pennsylvania. Singh managed to escape and call for help after a family in the washroom intervened.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol subsequently arrested Andrew Kris Bzdak, 45, on charges of attempted first-degree murder. The motive for the attack remains unclear.

Krishnamoorthi emphasized the need for Americans to stand against both hate and violence. The American Sikh Council called for a thorough investigation, though they stressed it did not claim the DHS post caused the stabbing.
