Ukrainian forces moved into a Russian-held village that the Russians were convinced was inaccessible, according to an officer from the assault force. He recounted a systematic, house-to-house clearing operation, followed by a Russian denial that the footage was AI generated. The village of Serednie, located in eastern Ukraine, has been a focal point of Ukraine's counteroffensive, which has been steadily reclaiming ground in this region.

The village is situated along the Lyman direction, an area where Russian forces have been pushing towards Ukrainian-held cities such as Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. Ukrainian troops from the 66th Separate Mechanized Brigade initiated the assault on Serednie during Operation Vivaldi. The deputy commander of the brigade's first mechanized battalion, Kassta, referred to as Timokha, explained that Ukrainian troops entered the village during this counteroffensive.

Russian forces, confident in the village's inaccessibility due to its terrain, did not anticipate any Ukrainian counterattack or offensive in response. The operation required extensive preparation, as the village was densely packed with basements and buildings that needed to be individually inspected. Reconnaissance efforts came first, followed by aerial attacks via drones, heavy bombers, and artillery to neutralize any resistance.

Despite Ukrainian troops successfully clearing the village, the Russians disputed these claims, alleging that the footage was AI-generated. This assertion echoed a similar incident in Sviatohirsk, where Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the town's capture before Ukraine's Third Army Corps Commander, Brigadier General Andrii Biletskyi, publicly refuted the claim.
