Police arrest 7 suspected robbers at Zebilla

In a recent operation, seven suspects were apprehended by the Upper East Regional Police Command in connection with armed robberies that occurred in Zebilla, Garu and Binduri. The suspects were alleged to be part of a larger gang network that provided weapons for these criminal activities. During the operation, led by the Police Intelligence Directorate, Black Cobra Unit and the Zebilla Community Watchdogs, the suspects were identified as Issaka Iddrisu, Ali Tamimu, Akugre Amobila, Banabas Apiiga, Abdul Rashid Adamu, Apliga Alebena, and Bilal Adabodee. They were aged between 20 and 41 years.

The victims reported the robberies to the police and identified two suspects involved in a three-member gang who had stolen their Yamaha scooters. These victims alleged that the robbers threatened them with death if they reported the incident. During questioning, the suspects admitted to the robberies and provided information about a weapons supplier from Bawku who supplied them with firearms and safe storage.

Police searches at the homes of Adamu, Alebena and Adabodee yielded two unregistered motorbikes, suspected drugs, and a substantial amount of cash believed to be earnings from their criminal activities.

The seven suspects have been remanded in custody by the Bolgatanga Circuit Court and are set to appear before the court on September 23, 2026. Authorities are also actively searching for the weapons supplier.
