Two dead as tanker explodes along Eldoret-Webuye highway

On September 18, an explosion occurred on the Eldoret-Webuye Road in Kenya, near Paul Boit Secondary School. Ten individuals were evacuated to various hospitals following the incident. The Kenya Red Cross reported that the explosion triggered a mass casualty response, with assistance from well-wishers, county ambulance services, firefighters, and Kenya Red Cross teams. The Red Cross emphasized that the incident was contained through a multi-agency response.

Earlier reports suggested several fatalities, but Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Wilberforce Sicharani confirmed the recovery of two bodies, stating that search and recovery operations continued. More casualties were feared. Initially, it was reported that the tanker overturned before exploding, with residents gathering to collect leaking fuel.
