Semicon 2.0 targets 200 chip design firms

Semicon India 2.0 is targeting at least 200 chip design firms in India, expanding on the first phase of the government's semiconductor program. The second phase, approved by the Union Cabinet in July, carries an investment of Rs 1.275 lakh crore and focuses on six key areas: chip design, equipment and materials, fabrication facilities, advanced packaging, research and development, and talent development.

Vaishnaw announced that the program aims to create 1 lakh skilled semiconductor technicians and other industry-ready professionals, a goal achieved four years ahead of schedule in the first phase. Semicon India 2.0, held from September 17 to 19 in New Delhi, brings together over 600 exhibitors, including 300 international companies, and over 150 speakers, showcasing India's progress in building a broader, integrated semiconductor ecosystem.
