Global industry leaders back India's chip ecosystem push under ISM 2.0 at Semicon India 2026

Global industry leaders endorsed India's chip ecosystem push under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0, as announced at the Semicon India 2026 summit. The industry executives and academic experts emphasized that India's drive beyond core fabrication to encompass supply chains, talent creation, and international collaborations is garnering global attention. Three hundred international firms participated in the summit, showcasing the scale and enthusiasm of the operations.

Achim Kempe, COO of European semiconductor firm Nexperia, highlighted the scale of operations in India, expressing admiration for the country's talent, motivation, and government support. He stressed the necessity of collaboration across regions for building domestic capability and signed an MoU with Tata to leverage shared expertise. Kempe also mentioned the upcoming construction of factories in India, where Nexperia plans to act as a manufacturing and development partner, contributing to the ecosystem.

Erez Imberman, director of strategic programs at Israel-based SCD, stressed that developing a lasting semiconductor footprint requires backing the peripheral supply chains in addition to standalone facilities. He praised ISM 2.0 for its focus on the ecosystem, noting that SCD is considering establishing a unit in India to support semiconductor fab development.

Manoj Choudhary, vice chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, detailed the policy allocations under ISM 2.0, which emphasize chip design, equipment, chemicals, gases, fabs, compound semiconductors, and advanced R&D. The program's training of one lakh new personnel aims to establish value chains for various sectors, enhancing import substitution and export capabilities.
