Police arrest 36 suspects over lynching of officer at Gindabour

In the Savannah Region of Ghana, the Ghana Police Service has apprehended 36 suspects connected to the death of a police officer who was ambushed by a mob at Gindabour in Sawla District. The fallen officer, General Constable Redeemer Owusu, lost his life on September 16 after a motorbike rider veered into the bush while the officers were patrolling the Gindabour-Kenkyen community road.

Initially suspicious, the officers pursued the rider who was found unconscious and died during the transport to a hospital. The mob’s response resulted in injuries to the surviving officers and damage to the police vehicle. The victims' bodies were taken to Damongo Morgue for further examination. The Inspector-General of Police has enlisted a special team of investigators and intelligence officers to aid in the probe.

Reinforcements from nearby districts have arrived to bolster security. All suspects have been arrested and are aiding the investigation, with their cases set to be heard in court. The Regional Police Command has strongly denounced the attack and pledged to see the culprits face the law. The police have also requested the public to maintain calmness while the investigation progresses.
