Police Arrest 36 suspects over lynching of officer at Gindabour

The Ghana Police Service has apprehended 36 individuals suspected in the lynching of a police officer at Gindabour, a district in the Savannah Region of Ghana. Initial investigations suggest that on September 16, 2026, the deceased officer and his colleagues were on patrol along the Gindabour to Kenkyen community road. A motorbike rider, noticing the police vehicle, swerved into the bushes.

The officers, suspicious of the rider's actions, pursued him from another direction but found the man unconscious on the roadside. The officers transported the man to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries en route. Following the news of the officer's death, a mob from the community attacked the officers, resulting in injuries to the surviving officers and damage to their vehicle.

The bodies of the deceased officer and the rider are now at the Damongo Morgue for autopsy. The Inspector-General of Police has dispatched a team of investigators and intelligence officers to facilitate the investigation and apprehend the perpetrators. Reinforcements from Damongo, Bole, Sawla, Tuna, Kalba, and the Regional Intelligence Team are stationed at the scene to ensure security and maintain order.

The police have confirmed that all 36 suspects are currently in custody and will face the court. The police strongly condemn the attack on its officers and guarantee that the perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions.
