Negeri Sembilan legal body accuses state Exco of coup against ruler

In a letter addressed to the Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan and circulated among state officials, legal body DKU has accused the state executive council of attempting a coup against the state ruler, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir. The accusations were made in proceedings before the Seremban High Court, as reported by The Edge. The letter, written by Messrs Halim & Ismail on behalf of Raja Norazli Raja Nordin, the secretary of DKU, and DKU itself, alleges that the state government's recent announcement of Tuanku Muhriz's removal and the appointment of Tuanku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar as his successor is tantamount to a coup d'état and an act of treason.

The lawyers assert that the proclamation, issued on April 19, 2026, does not meet the necessary requirements under Article 10 of the Undang-Undang Tubuh Kerajaan Negeri Sembilan 1959 (UUTKNS), rendering it null and void. They also challenge the Executive Council's authority to make such an announcement, stating that it lacks the constitutional power to declare the removal of Tuanku Muhriz from the throne.

The lawyers describe the state government's actions as an attempt to subvert Tuanku Muhriz's executive authority under UUTKNS and ultimately remove him from the throne, which they say should be punishable under the Penal Code and other relevant laws.
