Dubai Basketball’s summer recruit Mamadi Diakite, a native of Guinea, has achieved remarkable success throughout his basketball career, winning championships at the NCAA, G League, and NBA levels. Born and raised in the United States, Diakite left home at the age of 15 to pursue his passion for basketball and went on to capture a historic NCAA title with the University of Virginia, scoring an unforgettable buzzer-beater that remains etched in NCAA history.
Afterward, he embarked on his NBA journey, signing with the Milwaukee Bucks as an undrafted free agent in 2020, where he won the NBA G League title, played 14 regular-season games, and seven playoff games for Milwaukee, ultimately becoming the only player to win an NCAA title, a G League title, and an NBA championship.
In a series of trades spanning four years, Diakite then moved to Europe, signing with Spanish side Baskonia. In the 2025/26 season, Diakite represented Baskonia, a team from Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, before making a move to Dubai Basketball, a project that has already achieved significant success in its short two-year existence. The 29-year-old Diakite is captivated by Dubai and appreciates the team's focus on creating the best possible basketball environment, which includes strong coaching, care for players, and a dedication to helping each individual reach their full potential on the court.
Diakite's wife and son joined him in the emirate, providing him with the stability he seeks after long stints moving around.
Diakite expressed his excitement about joining Dubai Basketball and his desire to contribute to the team's goal of becoming the best in the league. The team has bolstered its roster with a world-class coach, Xavi Pascual, and five other key signings such as Tornike Shengelia and Thomas Walkup. As the EuroLeague SuperCup approaches, Diakite hopes to lead Dubai to victory and continue his winning ways, emphasizing the importance of discipline, unity, and humility in achieving success.
