2027: I’ll scrap Office of First Lady as Nigeria’s president – Sowore

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has stated his intention to abolish the office of the First Lady if he assumes the presidency in 2027. During a discussion on Channels Television's Politics Tonight, Sowore revealed that the Nigerian constitution lacks provisions for the position of First Lady. He affirmed that his marriage would remain unaffected by his election, but his wife would not assume the role of First Lady.

Sowore emphasized that the Nigerian Constitution does not include a position called First Lady. Despite becoming president, he vowed to maintain his marriage but would refrain from taking on the First Lady's role. He argued that allocating public funds for a role not officially sanctioned by the Constitution was unnecessary. Sowore highlighted that women's voices would still be heard in his administration, but he firmly believed that a First Lady's position contravened the constitution and wasted resources on activities that could be better utilized for nation-building.

He concluded by stating that, based on his policies, there would be no First Lady's position during his presidency.
