Ukrainian drone attacks halted two refineries run by Russian oil giant Rosneft. Three of Russia’s six biggest diesel-producing refineries are now sharply reducing output or fully shut down.

Ukrainian drone attacks have forced two oil refineries owned by Russian giant Rosneft to cease operations, according to Reuters. The Syzran refinery was struck on September 15-16, and the Saratov facility was hit on September 10-11. The Syzran refinery suffered damage to its main crude distillation unit, which makes up around 71% of its processing capacity, as well as a second unit that was already under repair from an earlier attack in July.

Repairs at the Syzran plant could take up to a month. The Saratov refinery had already halted production on September 8 due to equipment damage and fires, but attackers struck it again on September 11. Three of Russia's six biggest diesel-producing refineries experienced reduced output or complete shutdowns in September, due to drone attacks.

The six refineries — Omsk, Kirishi (Kinef), Volgograd, Perm, NORSI (Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez), and Taneco — account for about half of Russia's diesel production. Kinef has stopped production altogether, while Volgograd and NORSI are now operating at only a quarter of their usual capacity.
