House votes for third time to end Iran war as conflict drags on

The U.S. House has voted for the third time to end the ongoing war in Iran, approving a war powers resolution that would prohibit President Donald Trump from perpetuating military action without congressional authorization. In a late Tuesday vote, 220-204, the resolution mirrored previous attempts this summer, with a larger number of Republicans joining most Democrats in favor of terminating the conflict. None of the resolutions have reached the president's desk, as Trump would likely veto the measure.

Congressman Seth Moulton, a Democrat from Massachusetts and a former Marine who served in Iraq, pushed the resolution forward, questioning why Congress isn't questioning the administration's actions instead of being subservient to them. He recalled Trump's prediction that the war would last only a few weeks. In contrast, Republican Rep. Brian Mast of Florida, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, raised concerns about which military resources Democrats would want withdrawn from the region, emphasizing that Iran continues to pose a threat there.
