Trump sees three new GOP defections in House vote to end Iran war

A total of seven Republicans supported the resolution, up from four GOP votes for the previous two resolutions. Three new Republicans joined Democrats on Tuesday's vote, including Reps. While House GOP leaders do not formally direct their members on these types of resolutions, President Trump has harshly criticized Republicans who have opposed him on this issue, making it clear that he regards it as a litmus test for his support. In a dramatic turn of events, Senate Republicans initially voted to pass the measure but were compelled to change their stance due to pressure from the White House.

It remains uncertain whether the Senate would have sufficient votes to approve the measure once again, but Democrats intend to attempt it later in the week.

Public sentiment in the United States has grown increasingly critical of the hostilities in Iran. According to a summer CNN poll, 67% of people believe that Trump's decisions regarding military action in Iran have harmed the country. Additionally, fuel prices are once again on the rise, with diesel reaching over $6 per gallon. Democrats have been relentlessly pushing their GOP counterparts to express their opinions on the administration's actions in Iran, which have effectively constituted the nation's first one-party war.

Now, even some of Trump's own party members are refusing to back further funding for the war, and the Pentagon's multi-billion dollar request is likely to remain on hold until after the midterms.
