FG mourns Olu Jacobs, says his legacy will never fade

The Federal Government has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned Nollywood actor and cultural icon, Olu Jacobs, describing his death as a profound loss to Nigeria's creative sector. The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, conveyed the government's condolences in a statement.

Musawa hailed the late actor as a national institution whose work significantly shaped Nigeria's entertainment industry and showcased the country's narratives globally. "Olu Jacobs was not just an actor, he was a national institution. He was one of the most important pillars of Nigeria's entertainment industry and one of Africa's greatest actors," she stated.

Over five decades, Jacobs' voice, presence, and talent brought life to numerous stories and instilled dignity in the industry. His impact extended beyond acting, as he played a pivotal role in nurturing and developing talents through his Lufodo Academy, which trained hundreds of actors, directors, and filmmakers who are now driving Nollywood's growth.

The ministry emphasized that his legacy will endure through his work, his students, and the countless lives he touched. Jacobs' death has left a significant void in Nigeria's cultural and creative landscape, but the government remains confident that his influence will persist through his body of work and the artists he inspired.

Condolences were extended to his wife, Dame Joke Silva, their children, and other family members. Jacobs is widely acknowledged for his extensive contributions to Nigerian theatre, film, and television over a career spanning more than five decades.
