Tinubu mourns Olu Jacobs, calls him creative industry giant

President Bola Tinubu has extended his condolences following the passing of renowned Nollywood actor and film executive, Olu Jacobs, who died at the age of 84. Jacobs, also known as Olu Jacobs, was celebrated by the President for his exceptional contributions to Nigeria's entertainment industry, spanning theatre, television, and film.

The statement released by Tinubu's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, highlighted Jacobs' significant impact on the development and professionalization of Nigeria's entertainment sector. The President praised the late actor for his ability to bring "depth, dignity, and authenticity" to the roles he portrayed, garnering admiration not only in Nigeria but also globally.

Tinubu emphasized that Jacobs' passing represents a profound loss to Nigeria, the African film industry, and the global community of performing arts enthusiasts. He lauded Jacobs' remarkable career, which spanned decades and included training at London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. The President noted that Jacobs had returned to Nigeria, where he became a prominent figure in the country's film industry, receiving numerous accolades, including the national honor of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic.

In his condolence message, Tinubu expressed his sympathies to Jacobs' family, particularly his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, their children, relatives, and colleagues within the Nigerian film industry and the broader creative community. He fervently prayed for the soul of the late actor to find eternal peace.
