Education Minister hints at possible extension for new SHS students

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has signaled a potential extension of the deadline for Form One students' placement reports, as issues with the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) persist. The Minister's comment came during a visit to the Greater Accra Placement Resolution Centre, a GNAT Hall where parents and students have been lining up for assistance with their placement issues.

The ongoing problems have led to long queues and unresolved concerns, with parents seeking changes to day placements, expressing dissatisfaction with school distance, and contesting the courses or schools assigned to their children. Iddrisu personally met with affected families, heard their grievances, and encouraged officials to expedite the resolution process.

He pledged to return to the GNAT Hall to evaluate progress and decide on the necessity of further measures. If unresolved issues remain by the end of the week, Iddrisu indicated that the Ghana Education Service (GES) would refrain from imposing penalties. Moreover, students without outstanding placement issues were instructed to proceed with their reporting on September 18.

Iddrisu pledged to resolve the individual concerns of parents and students present at the centre, stating, "Everyone in this place will get their issues solved." The Education Ministry and the Ghana Education Service remain committed to collaborating with placement officials to resolve these challenges and ensure a seamless placement of students into senior high schools nationwide.
