Only Prime Minister’s Office can grant sanction to prosecute IAS officers, Centre tells Madras High Court

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has demanded either an apology from President John Dramani Mahama or the dismissal of Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu over the introduction of Arabic and Chinese languages into Ghana's school curriculum. In a statement, the NPP highlighted a contradiction between President Mahama's denial of approving the new policy and Education Minister Iddrisu's announcement of the policy on April 24, 2026.

The committee stated that if the Minister pursued the policy without presidential and Cabinet approval, the President must sack him. If the Minister acted with the President or Cabinet's approval, the President must apologize to the Ghanaian people for denying a policy set in motion by his government. The NPP questioned the public expenditure committed to the curriculum development, implementation, and training of teachers, especially considering the existing teacher shortages.

They urged the President to either apologize or dismiss the Minister, urging clear and consistent communication from the government.
