Deoksu Palace to relive 1901 diplomacy of Korean Empire

Step through the grand gates of Deoksu Palace this autumn, and you will find yourself transported back to the year 1901. Amidst the looming shadows of regional empires, Emperor Gojong is hosting foreign envoys, skillfully navigating diplomacy to protect his nation's sovereignty. Starting October 2nd, the Korea Heritage Service, in collaboration with the Korea Heritage Agency, will present an immersive historical reenactment called "Audience with Foreign Envoys of the Korean Empire" at Deoksu Palace in central Seoul.

This event, running through October 4th, offers visitors a unique opportunity to step directly into a crucial period of modern Korean history.

The event is particularly significant as it marks the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and France. This year's program, entitled "The Korean Empire: Embarking on Diplomacy Toward the Future," aims to recreate the intricate geopolitical climate of spring 1901. Instead of merely observing the proceedings, participants will assume the role of press correspondents for the Korean Empire.
