Deoksu Palace to relive 1901 diplomacy of Korean Empire

Prepare to be transported back in time this autumn to the year 1901 at Deoksu Palace. Amidst the shifting tides of regional powers, Emperor Gojong is hosting foreign dignitaries, employing every diplomatic strategy to secure Korea's independence. Starting October 2nd, the Korea Heritage Service, in collaboration with the Korea Heritage Agency, will present an immersive historical reenactment called "Audience with Foreign Envoys of the Korean Empire" at the palace in central Seoul.

This event, running through October 4th, provides a unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in a critical period of Korean history.

The event is particularly significant as it coincides with the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and France. This year's program, named "The Korean Empire: Embarking on Diplomacy Toward the Future," aims to recreate the complex geopolitical climate of the spring of 1901. Unlike traditional tourist experiences, visitors will not merely observe history unfold but will actively participate as press correspondents for the Korean Empire.

Armed with press notebooks and digital tools, audience members will follow the historical reenactments closely, gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges and triumphs faced during this pivotal time in Korea's diplomatic journey.
