Sega's ongoing effort to revive Crazy Taxi now appears to be taking the form of… a movie?

Sega's persistent endeavor to revive its classic game, Crazy Taxi, might soon take on a new dimension: a comedy movie. The game, known for its emphasis on speed and lack of narrative, is being given a narrative by a team including Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who have previously worked on projects like the 2025 reboot of Naked Gun.

The movie is set to be produced by Original Films and Toru Nakahara, a production team responsible for the Sonic the Hedgehog movies and related television shows. According to an official statement, the movie aims to capture the spirit of fans who spent hours racing around in a yellow taxi, with a nod to the iconic 90s aesthetic.

Though the feasibility of translating the fast-paced, 90-second gameplay into a full-length movie is questionable, the team remains optimistic about the project. Additionally, Sega and Netflix are also developing an animated Sonic television series and a movie adaptation of an upcoming game called Stranger Than Heaven, highlighting the company's diverse approach to adapting video games for the big screen.
