Netflix and Sega Set ‘Crazy Taxi’ Game-to-Film Adaptation

Netflix and Sega have teamed up to bring new adaptations of their popular franchises to the big and small screen. This collaboration includes a live-action film adaptation of the classic racing game Crazy Taxi, an upcoming animated preschool series featuring Sonic the Hedgehog, and a live-action movie adaptation of the upcoming action-adventure game Stranger Than Heaven.

The live-action Crazy Taxi film will be written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, known for their work on the 2025 reboot of "The Naked Gun," while Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara are also producers on the project. Meanwhile, the Sonic series is being developed by Carlos Stevens and Toru Nakahara, who will present Sonic and his friends as heroes for younger audiences. Meanwhile, Stranger Than Heaven will also be produced by Nakahara.

Brandon Riegg, vice president of Nonfiction and Transmedia at Netflix, stated that the partnership allows the company to work across different eras of Sega's catalog, celebrating its beloved games while introducing them to new audiences. Shuji Utsumi, president and chief operating officer of Sega, expressed pride in the collaboration and the commitment to honoring each game's unique storytelling.

Toru Nakahara, Head Producer at Sega, teased that fans can expect "cute yet cool" Sonic, a "hilariously crazy" Crazy Taxi movie, and "badass action drama" for Stranger Than Heaven.

Despite some mixed results in the past, Netflix continues to prove its dedication to video game adaptations, with successful animated series like "Castlevania," "Arcane," and "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners," as well as live-action adaptations like "The Witcher" and "Resident Evil." The streaming platform has also shown its commitment by debuting the trailer for "Grand Theft Auto VI" and producing adaptations for other popular video games, such as Assassin's Creed, Gears of War, Minecraft, Magic: The Gathering, Clash of Clans, and Overcooked.
