Pengampunan Najib tangguh kena tanya Hannah, kata Azalina

Menteri Undang-Undang dan Reformasi Institusi Azalina Othman Said dodged a question regarding the postponement of former Prime Minister Najib Razak's pardon application. She emphasized that she is not the minister responsible for the Unit for National Unity (LPWP), stating that the issue lies with the federal-level body known as the Unit for Administrative Justice and Reform (BHEUU).

BHEUU is the secretariat for the LPWP, though each state's minister and minister of state serves as its executive representatives. On Friday, BHEUU announced that Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has kindly postponed Najib's pardon request until the next meeting. PAS urged the government to explain why the request has been postponed, calling it a matter of public importance.

Najib was accused six years ago of embezzling RM42 million from SRC International and was fined RM210 million and sentenced to 12 years in prison, which he is currently serving at Kajang Prison starting August 2022. The LPWP later reduced his prison term to six years and fined him RM50 million. In December of last year, Najib was accused of misusing power and dealing in illicit funds involving more than RM2 billion linked to 1MDB.

He was sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined RM11.38 billion. Najib is currently appealing for clemency.
