Lone survivor: How I escaped Plateau bus attack

Nasiru Garba, the sole survivor of a bus attack in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, recounted his harrowing escape from death when gunmen opened fire on the vehicle. Nine passengers lost their lives in the attack at Dungus Junction on Sunday, following the bus driver's stop to drop off some passengers. The bus, en route to Jos, was struck shortly after parking at the junction.

Bloodied and bullet-riddled, the vehicle was a grim testament to the attack. Garba, the bus conductor, recounted that five passengers disembarked before the driver exited to collect fare. As the driver opened the door to re-enter, the gunmen unleashed their fury. The attackers rushed the bus, breached the front door, and began searching Garba's body.

They seized all the money and his phone, which was still charging. Garba remained silent during the ordeal and never glanced at the attackers' faces. The attack, described as terrible and confusing, left only Garba alive. His former student and the bus driver, Ibrahim Bala, perished along with eight other passengers. Neighbors and relatives of the victims expressed their devastation, mourning the loss of loved ones and calling for decisive action against the assailants.
