Nick Reiner won’t face death penalty in parents’ killings, prosecutor says

Los Angeles prosecutors have announced that Nick Reiner will not face the death penalty if convicted of murdering his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. Reiner was indicted on charges of killing his parents last month, alleging that he was lying in wait before the attack. He pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder with multiple murder and murder by means of lying in wait after the indictment was unsealed.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that the maximum sentence Reiner faces is life without parole. Hochman explained that the district attorney's office conducted a thorough review of both aggravating and mitigating factors, as well as consultations with the victim's family, before deciding not to seek the death penalty.

Reiner's trial is estimated to occur no earlier than 2027. Reiner's siblings requested that the grand jury transcripts remain sealed due to potential additional trauma and harm. Reiner was arrested on December 15 after his parents were found dead with stab wounds in their upscale Brentwood home on December 14, 2025. Reiner's defense attorney, Alan Jackson, withdrew from the case in January, and Reiner is now represented by public defender Kimberly Greene.

Reiner's family expressed trust in the legal process and declined further comment on the legal proceedings.
