Ex-Google DeepMind researcher adds to warnings that AI could ‘kill all humans’

Former Google DeepMind researcher Bilal Chughtai has joined the chorus of AI experts warning that artificial intelligence could lead to the extinction of humanity. In a recent X post, Chughtai stated that he earnestly believes AI has the potential to kill all humans, and that we may be running out of time to prevent such an outcome.

Chughtai, who worked on AGI safety and alignment research at Google DeepMind before leaving the company in July 2026, emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to navigate AI development safely. He argued that the pace of AI advancement must be slowed to allow society to address emerging risks before they result in extreme harm.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently called for a slowdown in the development of advanced AI systems, receiving support from tech magnates Elon Musk and Sam Altman. However, the warnings have sparked debate, with former President Donald Trump dismissing the calls for regulation as a hoax.
