2028 elections: NDC likely to use misinformation to distract from failed promises – Afenyo-Markin

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader of Ghana's National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the ruling party of planning to employ misinformation and disinformation tactics ahead of the 2028 general elections. In a post on Facebook on September 15, he alleged that the government would seek to distract the public from its failure to address critical national issues through false information.

Afenyo-Markin pointed out that this strategy is not new, as the NDC has reportedly utilized similar methods while in opposition. He warned that the NDC government is likely to aggressively employ misinformation and disinformation during the 2028 elections to hold onto power. He urged Ghanaians to remain vigilant and scrutinize the information they encounter in the lead-up to the elections.

Afenyo-Markin specifically called on the National Democratic Congress members, officers, and communicators to verify claims, expose false information, and prevent propaganda from shaping the party's political agenda. He emphasized that NPP members, party officers, and communicators have a greater responsibility to focus on the government's broken promises and the everyday challenges faced by citizens.

Afenyo-Markin concluded by urging the NPP to maintain a clear message, expose lies, focus on the issues, and promote the vision of former Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2028 polls.
