Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is reportedly still planning a bilateral meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, according to a Malaysian PM. NEW DELHI: Anwar stated the proposed two-way meeting with Vijay is still in the works and could take place either in Putrajaya or Chennai, Tamil Nadu. In an exclusive interview with Thanthi TV, Anwar also denied speculation that Chennai would not respond positively to Malaysia's hospitality offer.

Currently in India, Anwar was supposed to conduct a work visit to Chennai after attending the 18th BRICS Leaders Summit, before heading to Kerala, another southern Indian state. However, the Chennai visit was canceled at the last minute. "Not true (that Chennai did not respond). From the beginning, the chief minister's office clarified that they tried to synchronize Anwar's schedule as he had previous commitments, and I only had limited time between visits to New Delhi, Kerala, and Maldives," Anwar said.

Even so, he attempted to adjust the schedule and had a business investment program already planned. Therefore, Anwar informed Vijay that he would continue to Kerala and Maldives, and could not proceed with the visit to Tamil Nadu. He further praised Vijay's momentum and appeal among young voters while urging a long-term approach to value-based leadership, patience, and practical wisdom.

Anwar, one of the early foreign leaders to congratulate Vijay on his appointment as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, described him as a fresh voice for rational thinking, principles, and good governance. "When I talk to him, I always tell him that the challenge when you are in power is to maintain prudence to drive the ship, as the real-world challenges will be different from what you want to do," Anwar said.

Anwar also expressed admiration for Vijay's efforts to implement reforms, make improvements, and tackle issues of poverty and corruption.
