Loke calls for PH presidential council meeting after Zahid’s remarks

DAP Secretary-General Loke Siew Fook called for a Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting in response to Umno President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's recent remarks. The meeting is aimed at addressing concerns over political certainty as component parties in the unity government seem to be moving in different directions. This lack of unity could undermine investor and public confidence, according to Loke, who is also the Transport Minister.

Zahid's criticism of Anwar during the Umno general assembly included a claim that Umno could govern better than the Prime Minister. He also challenged critics to remove Umno and Barisan Nasional from the unity government and table a no-confidence motion against Anwar in the Dewan Rakyat. While Umno and BN agreed to form the unity government with PH following the 2022 general election, Zahid emphasized that cooperation does not equal surrendering the parties' future.

He also reiterated that Umno and BN remain free to pursue their own political paths, including the next general election and the upcoming Melaka state election. However, Umno has pledged to remain loyal to the current administration until its term concludes.
