Canada's 2026 census participation reached one of the highest levels ever recorded, according to Statistics Canada. The response rate for this year's population census was 98.4 per cent, surpassing previous records. The census, collected every five years, gathers information on age, gender, marital status, and language use. This data is crucial for determining electoral maps, planning social programs, and allocating funding for local and provincial governments.

Some individuals questioned the privacy of the census, posting pictures of marked forms and arguing the questions violated their rights. Liberal MP Mark Gerretsen encouraged participation, warning that non-compliance could lead to a $500 fine. Statistics Canada has commenced compiling the collected data, with the first of seven batches set to be released in February 2027. Over 88 per cent of Canadians opted to complete the census online, a record number for the first time.
