Apple releases HomePod 27 with two new improvements

Apple has unveiled the HomePod 27 software update, accompanied by iOS 27, introducing two significant enhancements. The update can be installed through the Home app on an iPhone within Home Settings > Software Update. According to Apple's official release notes, HomePod 27 brings support for AutoMix with Apple Music, enabling seamless song transitions akin to a DJ, while maintaining precise time stretching and beatmatching for uninterrupted playback.

Additionally, the update boosts AirPlay performance, facilitating quicker and more responsive connections when sharing music from iPhone, iPad, or Mac devices. Beyond these enhancements, HomePod 27 also features bug fixes and security updates to ensure optimal performance and safeguard user data.

AutoMix, initially introduced last year on iOS, has received substantial improvements and is now extended to HomePod and Apple TV. This feature delivers song transitions that mimic the experience of being at a party or venue with a DJ, making it particularly suitable for HomePod as it effectively fills the entire house with music.

Although the AirPlay improvements may appear minor, they can significantly impact the speed and ease of switching playback between devices. During a test using the iOS 27 beta, the author found the process of connecting to and from their iPhone and HomePod to be remarkably fast and effortless. It is worth noting that HomePod 27 does not currently include Siri AI capabilities, but users can anticipate its debut as part of upcoming HomePod hardware updates within the next month.
