Anwar says meeting with Tamil Nadu CM Vijay remains on the cards, either in Putrajaya or Chennai

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that a meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay remains a possibility, and it could take place either in Putrajaya or Chennai, Tamil Nadu. In an interview with Thanthi TV, he clarified that speculations regarding Chennai's lack of reciprocity were incorrect. Anwar, currently in India, had initially planned to visit Chennai after attending the BRICS Leaders Summit, but the meeting was postponed due to his other commitments in New Delhi, Kerala, and the Maldives.

Anwar praised Vijay's early popularity and appeal, particularly among young voters, and urged a long-term approach to governance based on values, patience, and practical wisdom. He also commended Vijay's commitment to reforms, addressing poverty, and corruption, and shared his own book with the Tamil Nadu leader, noting Vijay's openness to learning. Anwar highlighted Tamil Nadu's cultural influence and Vijay's diplomatic potential, considering the majority of ethnic Indians in Malaysia to be Tamils.
