Amazon pauses operations with cargo carrier after fatal Miami crash

Amazon has halted its collaboration with cargo carrier 21 Air following a fatal crash in Miami. The e-commerce giant cited the need to support the ongoing investigation and review surrounding circumstances before resuming operations. On September 6, a 21 Air-operated Boeing jet exceeded a runway at Miami International Airport, colliding with several vehicles and resulting in the deaths of five individuals.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently leading the investigation into the incident. Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel emphasized safety as the company's top priority and reiterated their commitment to supporting the investigation and those affected. The Boeing 767-300 cargo plane, departing from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, overshot the runway and crashed into nearby vehicles before coming to a stop.

The NTSB chairwoman, Jennifer Homendy, described the crash site as "utter devastation." Miami authorities have identified the deceased as Rolando Aleman Leon, Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, Julio C Pineda, Carlos Acosta Fajardo, and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo. Investigators have retrieved the flight recorders to examine the factors leading up to the crash.

21 Air, an all-cargo carrier that serves major companies such as Amazon and DHL, has expressed devastation over the accident and is cooperating with authorities in the investigation.
