Amazon suspends use of 21 Air, the cargo carrier whose plane careened off Miami runway and killed 5

Amazon has temporarily halted its operations with Miami-based cargo carrier 21 Air following the tragic crash of an Amazon-branded cargo plane in Miami, which resulted in the deaths of five individuals. Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel stated that the company has been supporting the ongoing investigation and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Earlier this week, an Amazon Prime Air cargo flight (Flight 7598) overran the runway while attempting to land at Miami International Airport, striking several vehicles on the ground. The plane, a 32-year-old Boeing 767-300 freighter, had been used as a passenger jet between 1994 and 2015. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reported that the pilots of the Amazon Prime Air cargo plane considered aborting the landing after touchdown, based on data from a flight data recorder.

Additionally, one pilot expressed concern about the aircraft's speed just over a minute prior to the crash landing.

21 Air released a statement expressing their continued support for the families and loved ones affected by the accident, as well as their close collaboration with the NTSB and other partners throughout the investigation. The company reaffirmed their confidence in their safety policies, procedures, and training.
