US approves $1m forensic aid to help Nepal identify flood victims

The United States has granted an additional $1 million in aid to aid Nepal's efforts in identifying victims of the catastrophic floods, raising Washington's total aid to over $5 million. This latest funding, approved by the US State Department's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, will deploy forensic assistance, including DNA analysis kits, to the Nepal Police to establish the identities of victims and provide answers to families.

The US expressed heartfelt condolences to those affected and their families, reaffirming solidarity with the people of Nepal and prioritizing the safety of US citizens in the affected regions. The new funding adds to over $4 million previously committed for humanitarian, health, and other assistance since the disaster. A significant portion of this $1 million will assist with DNA analysis and forensic services, while other funds will be allocated for food, shelter, and essential services to affected communities.
