Pertemuan PAS, Umno Kedah hanya ‘sembang santai’, kata Sanusi

Kedah's Menteri Besar, Sanusi Nor, clarified that the recent meeting between PAS and Umno Kedah was merely casual talks about current political developments, according to reports from FMT. The outcome of any distribution of parliamentary seats was stated to be exclusively in the hands of PAS Central and Perikatan Nasional (PN). Sanusi emphasized that any decisions regarding seat allocation would be made by PAS Central after national consultations, not at the state level.

He confirmed his intention to meet with Umno Kedah's leader, Mahdzir Khalid, and former Kedah Chief Minister, Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, to explore potential political cooperation between the two parties. Sanusi clarified that the issue of seat allocation based on the existing status quo or current situation would be addressed, but Umno-Barisan Nasional (BN) could explore contested areas if they did not already hold any seats, such as in Kedah.

Earlier, Umno Kedah had announced their willingness to engage in political cooperation discussions with PAS, while stressing that the talks would not involve other component parties. Sanusi dismissed concerns among other component parties that any developments from the meeting might be directed to higher leadership. He emphasized that any such developments would instead flow through PAS Central and PN meetings.

Meanwhile, PAS Youth Leader Wong Chia Zhen stated that any form of political cooperation must be grounded in the sincerity and desires of the people, rather than simply serving as a platform for regaining power. He maintained that the party remained consistent in upholding principles of harmony and cohesion in forming political coalitions.

The people, he added, had rejected corruption and demanded integrity in governance, prioritizing harmony among communities. For Gerakan, adhering to these principles in any political cooperation was of utmost importance.
