Pertemuan PAS, Umno Kedah hanya ‘sembang santai’, kata Sanusi

Kedah's Menteri Besar Sanusi Nor has dismissed concerns among other component parties that a possible meeting between PAS and Umno Kedah could make them feel marginalized, as the meeting is merely a casual discussion about current political developments. The PAS poll coordinator clarified that any decisions regarding seat distribution will be made solely by PAS Central and Perikatan Nasional (PN).

The meeting with Umno Kedah is limited to a discussion about each party's respective developments, with the seat distribution only to be decided by PAS Central after national-level deliberations, not at the state level, he told FMT. Recently, Sanusi confirmed his intention to meet the Kedah Umno chief, Mahdzir Khalid, and former Kedah chief minister Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah to explore political cooperation between the two parties in the state.

For now, he clarified that the issue of seat allocation based on the status quo or existing circumstances, but Umno-Barisan Nasional (BN) could explore contested areas if they do not already hold any seats, like in Kedah. Earlier, Umno Kedah announced readiness to hold political cooperation discussions with PAS, emphasizing that the dialogue would not involve other PN component parties.

Sanusi clarified that there is no concern about this as any developments would flow to PAS Central and the PN meeting. Meanwhile, Gerakan's Deputy Youth Leader Wong Chia Zhen stated that any form of political cooperation must be based on sincerity and the people's wishes, rather than merely a platform to regain power. He reiterated that the party remains consistent in upholding the principle of harmony and discipline in forming political alliances.

The public has rejected corruption, demanding discipline in governance and prioritizing harmony among communities. Gerakan always adheres to this principle in any form of political cooperation, which is most important for them, said the Kulim MP.
