‘This may be my last time’: Abang Johari hints at possible final term as PBB president, calls on younger leaders to step up

MIRI, Sept 13 — PBB President Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has hinted that his tenure may be his final one, calling on the older generation to step aside for younger leaders to take charge of the party's responsibility and struggle. The 76-year-old premier stated that he might be retiring as he will be 80 in just four years. He emphasized that change is a natural process and that the party must consistently prepare and train younger members to assume leadership roles when the time comes.

Abang Johari, speaking at the PBB Northern Zone Special Convention in Miri, made it clear that despite his heart still feeling young, he recognizes the inevitability of nature's cycle. He urged members not to feel disappointed when the time comes for them to make way for younger leaders, explaining that "old are eventually replaced by the young."

The premier stressed that the spirit of PBB must be carried on by those who love Sarawak, and the party has already begun integrating new faces, including young leaders, during the previous election. Abang Johari expressed gratitude for his own training by previous leaders and reiterated that the responsibility of training successors lies with the current generation, ensuring PBB's continuity and preventing toxicity within the party.
