Russian drone hits train near Ukraine-Poland border soon after visiting dignitaries passed through

On Sunday, a Russian drone attacked a train near the Ukraine-Poland border, shortly after senior dignitaries, including former UK and Swedish prime ministers, had passed through, according to Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine's state rail operator. The diplomatic train, which included Boris Johnson, Carl Bildt, and security advisers from multiple EU states, had departed the station at Yahodyn ahead of schedule.

The visitors were returning from a security conference in Kyiv. It was believed that the Russian drone was likely targeting the diplomatic train, which had left the station early. Carl Bildt, the former Swedish prime minister, shared a video of the attack on X, noting that the train had been evacuated before the drone arrived. No one was injured.

Another train, carrying former CIA Director David Petraeus, was also at the station when the attack occurred, but there were no reported casualties on any of the trains. Ukrzaliznytsia stated that they regularly adjust train schedules to prevent such incidents. Boris Johnson expressed disbelief over the attack, saying, "What we can say for sure is that this is the kind of random and senseless attack Ukrainians are enduring every day — even on civilian railways."

Earlier that day, a Russian drone struck a truck near the Polish border, causing a temporary closure of the Yahodyn-Dorohusk crossing.
