Minister warns against emotion-driven politics amid UMNO exit calls

Differences in opinion within political parties are commonplace, but leaders must lead by example and prioritize the national interest, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil warned today. This came amid growing calls from some Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporters for UMNO to withdraw from the Unity Government. As the government spokesman, Fahmi emphasized that while disagreement is natural in any political party, leaders should always put Malaysia first.

"If we examine any political party, you'll find voices questioning others, each pushing for different outcomes," he noted. "As leaders, our responsibility is to set an example by putting Malaysia first. This guiding principle should apply not only to our party leadership but also to our national leadership." The Unity Government, comprising UMNO and PH, remains intact and continues to address economic challenges and enhance Malaysia's international standing.

Addressing allegations of using legal pressure to sway certain parties, Fahmi reiterated the government's commitment to maintaining a hands-off approach towards enforcement agencies. He reiterated that the Prime Minister and Administration have consistently refrained from interfering in investigations initiated or conducted by these agencies.

Fahmi also highlighted that the King himself has mandated thorough investigations into matters concerning Tabung Haji and FELDA. When questioned about the potential impact of these internal party disagreements on the government's stability, Fahmi expressed confidence in the Unity Government's resilience until the conclusion of its term.
