Ketua Polis Kulai, Tan Seng Lee, reported that police had to fire one shot at a Perodua Myvi belonging to a couple of 23-year-old suspects during a routine patrol in Kulai, Johor, early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 1:20 AM when IPD Kulai motorcycle patrol unit was conducting a routine patrol in the area. The police detained a black Perodua Myvi and found a male and a local female inside.

During the search, the suspects became aggressive and attempted to flee by running over the motorcycle patrol unit and another Mazda CX-5, as well as attempting to run over the police officers. The patrol unit fired a shot at the suspects' vehicle to protect themselves and stop the vehicle. However, the suspects managed to escape, according to the statement.

The forensic team of the Johor Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) found bullet fragments and spent casings at the scene. Within 24 hours, the Criminal Investigation Unit of IPD Kulai detained the suspects near Bandar Putra, Kulai, and Kluang between 11:30 AM and 8:30 PM that day. They also seized a remote control device and a black Perodua Myvi believed to be used during the incident.

Initial drug tests on both suspects came back negative, and there was no criminal record found. The motive behind the incident is still under investigation, and the two suspects will be brought to the Johor High Court for bail application later today. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, Section 332 for causing intentional harm to a public servant, and Section 186 for obstructing a public servant from performing their duties.
