Donald Trump continues two-day visit of Ireland

US President Donald Trump remains in the Republic of Ireland for a two-day visit. He will be at Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg, County Clare to watch the Irish Open. On Saturday, Trump met with Ireland’s President Catherine Connolly and the Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, in Dublin. During their meeting, Trump expressed his desire to see a united Ireland.

He stated that a united Ireland would be a "fantastic thing" and suggested that even the UK would have something to say about it. The UK Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, has expressed his commitment to the Good Friday Agreement and the need for a border poll when there is public opinion change. Trump's comments on a united Ireland are seen as consistent with his previous views on the matter.

More than 10,000 people marched through Dublin against Trump, sending a message of opposition to his policies. Three women were arrested for trespassing on the golf course, and were later taken to court. Trump, an avid golfer, is expected to stay for the final day of the Irish Open, where he played a round with McIlroy, the defending champion.
