Anwar says Malaysia set to gain from new investment, industrial cooperation with India

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed optimism about Malaysia's economic future during his discussions with leaders of prominent Indian companies on September 13. "The Madani Government will continue to facilitate quality investments that strengthen local industries, create high-value jobs, and ensure that the benefits are felt by the people," he stated.

The discussions centered on potential expansion of investment and industrial cooperation between Malaysia and India in strategic sectors. Anwar met with representatives from DRB-Hicom, Segula Technologies India, AWL Agri Business Ltd, and Motherson Group. Discussions with DRB-Hicom, accompanied by their strategic partners, focused on automotive industry cooperation.

Segula Technologies India, a global engineering and technology company, expressed interest in establishing a global engineering center in Malaysia by the end of 2026, potentially bolstering local engineering capabilities through Malaysian talent and AI expertise in various sectors. AWL Agri Business Ltd, a major player in India's agribusiness sector, discussed increasing its procurement of Malaysian products, currently valued at RM1.5 billion, with a focus on palm oil, specialty fats, oleochemicals, and other downstream products.

Motherson Group, focusing on information technology and digital solutions, shared plans to enhance its operations in Malaysia, utilizing local talent, digital infrastructure, and Malaysia's strategic position as a regional gateway. Anwar arrived in India for the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit on September 13, marking his second visit to the country in his role as Prime Minister following his August 2024 trip.
