Malaysia pertimbang peroleh peluru berpandu BrahMos, kata Anwar

Perdana Menteri Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, has stated that the Royal Malaysian Air Force have the right to decide whether to acquire the BrahMos supersonic air-to-air missile system from India. In New Delhi, Anwar confirmed that Malaysia is exploring the possibility of obtaining the BrahMos system from India, but no final decision has been made yet.

The discussions took place during a bi-lateral meeting with Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, but the final decision rests with the Malaysian Air Force. The Malaysian side has suggested that relevant departments or agencies, who hold the authority in the air force, should continue the discussions. They have held initial talks and assured Prime Minister Modi of their strong support, emphasizing the importance of strengthening bilateral relations in all fields, Anwar said in an interview with NDTV India.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, acknowledged India's defense capabilities. BrahMos is a long-range supersonic cruise missile capable of being launched from submarines, ships, fighter jets, or a mobile launcher, jointly developed by India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyeniya.
