Anwar says Malaysia set to gain from new investment, industrial cooperation with India

In a series of meetings with Indian business leaders, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed optimism about the potential for increased investment and industrial cooperation between the two countries. Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, held discussions with representatives from DRB-Hicom, Segula Technologies India, AWL Agri Business Ltd, and Motherson Group.

During his conversation with DRB-Hicom, the automotive industry heavyweight, Anwar's team explored possibilities for collaboration, underscoring the mutual interest in expanding trade and partnerships within strategic sectors. Following that, Segula Technologies India, a global engineering and technology giant, announced its plans to set up a global engineering hub in Malaysia by the end of 2026.

This move could bolster Malaysia's local engineering prowess through the recruitment of local talent and the integration of artificial intelligence expertise into sectors like automotive, aerospace, energy, and advanced manufacturing.

AWL Agri Business Ltd, a major player in India's agricultural sector, discussed the prospect of procuring more products from Malaysian suppliers. Currently, the company has imported approximately 1.5 billion Malaysian ringgit worth of Malaysian palm oil, highlighting the potential for further cooperation in palm oil, specialty fats, oleochemicals, and other downstream products.

Lastly, during his meeting with Motherson Group, Anwar heard plans for the IT and digital solutions arm of the Indian conglomerate to bolster its operations in Malaysia. This expansion would capitalize on Malaysia's robust digital infrastructure, local talent pool, and strategic role as a gateway to regional markets.

Anwar arrived in India on September 13th to address the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit. This is his second visit to the country since assuming the role of Malaysian Prime Minister, following a previous trip in August 2024.
