Ogun community threatens legal action over four-month blackout

Residents of the Arepo community in Ogun State have threatened legal action over persistent power outages, claiming they have received less than two hours of electricity per day over the past four months. The Concerned Residents of Arepo, represented by Kehinde Adeyemo and Friday Erhabor, wrote a letter to Ikeja Electric's Managing Director on July 20, 2026, outlining their grievances.

Despite being upgraded to Band B consumer grade in 2024, the community has experienced epileptic power supply and frequent outages, crippling businesses and daily life. The letter states that despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue, no meaningful action has been taken by the DisCo. The residents also demand compensation for the lost electricity supply and the provision of electricity meters to all consumers. They warned they would pursue lawful means of redress if no progress is made within a month.
